Vein Institute

A state-of-the-art clinical program designed to target deep and superficial venous insufficiency, resolve legacy circulatory issues, and restore your comfort and mobility.

Understanding Vein Anatomy

At Vascular Surgeons of Houston, we utilize advanced diagnostic evaluations to pinpoint the source of your symptoms and determine whether your vein problem is superficial, deep, or related to another circulation issue.

Our diagnostic process begins with a focused history and physical exam, followed by advanced vascular ultrasound testing when needed. Ultrasound allows us to evaluate blood flow, check for venous reflux, identify abnormal valves, and rule out blood clots. Once we understand the cause and severity of your vein disease, we create a personalized treatment plan that may include compression therapy, lifestyle changes, sclerotherapy, vein ablation, or other minimally invasive options.

At Vascular Surgeons of Houston, we use a detailed evaluation to identify the source of your symptoms and determine whether your vein problem is superficial, deep, or related to another circulation issue.

Symptoms of Vein Disease

Vein disease can cause more than cosmetic concerns. Patients often experience leg heaviness, aching, burning, itching, swelling, night cramps, restless legs, or fatigue that worsens throughout the day. Some patients also notice bulging veins, skin darkening, inflammation, or wounds near the ankle.

These symptoms often improve with proper diagnosis and treatment. Early evaluation can help prevent progression and improve quality of life.

Risk Factiors:

  • Family history of vein disease

  • Prolonged standing or sitting occupations

  • Increasing age

  • Pregnancy and multiple pregnancies

  • Obesity or excess weight

  • Prior deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

  • History of leg injury or trauma

  • Sedentary lifestyle

  • Smoking

  • Hormonal changes or hormone therapy

  • Lack of regular exercise

  • Elevated pressure in the leg veins over time

  • Previous vein procedures or surgeries

  • Chronic constipation or conditions that increase abdominal pressure

Additional contributing factors can include:

  • Occupations such as teachers, nurses, hairstylists, factory workers, and healthcare professionals who stand for long periods

  • Limited mobility

  • Cardiovascular disease or poor circulation

Our Approach

We begin with a detailed consultation and vascular ultrasound when appropriate. This allows us to evaluate how blood is flowing through the veins and identify reflux, blockage, or other circulation problems.

Treatment plans are individualized and may include compression therapy, lifestyle guidance, minimally invasive vein procedures, or advanced vascular care when needed. Most vein treatments are performed in-office with minimal downtime.

Vein Treatments We Offer

Radiofrequency Ablation

Varithena Treatment

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment that safely closes unwanted spider and varicose veins, improving both leg appearance and symptoms with little to no downtime.

Compression Therapy

Custom compression therapy provides personalized medical-grade garments designed to improve circulation, reduce swelling, relieve discomfort, and support long-term vein and lymphatic health.
